GREENMOTIONS FILM FESTIVAL

06.11.2024 – 10.11.2024

Greenmotions is coming back for a 10th edition!

We are happy to announce that the Greenmotions Film Festival will be opening its doors again this year. Filmmakers are now invited to submit their film.

From November 6th until the 10th, we will be at the Kommunales Kino of Freiburg with a program full of exciting films and discussions. Those who have already visited us know it: every year, we dedicate part of our program to a special question. This year’s Special Topic is: “United in Change – Striving for a Just Transition”. We are looking forward to receiving films that are shedding light on the fair ways to make our societies transition towards a sustainable future.

This edition of the festival is also a very special one, as the Greenmotions Film Festival celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2024! To this end, we will be organizing various events in addition to the festival this year. Follow us on our social media channels and subscribe to our newsletter to stay up to date throughout the year. We look forward to seeing you there!

Call for submissions 2024

Call for entries 2024 Dear filmmakers, you are welcome to submit your movie to the 10th Edition of the Greenmotions Filmfestival in Freiburg, Germany! Greenmotions inspires and encourages people to take active participation in

Program

Screenings will take place at Kommunales Kino, Urachstraße 40, 79102 Freiburg. Our festival program will be put online in autumn.

Since we are a festival which intends to raise awareness of sustainability topics, we aim for inclusivity and fairness. Therefore, since the foundation of Greenmotions Film Festival, we have been using the Pay-After System, through which the audience can decide voluntarily whether and how much they want to contribute to the event after participating. We adopted this system to give everyone the opportunity to participate in the festival, including people with limited financial possibilities.

Film Competition

Dear Filmmakers,

Greenmotions is an annual film festival which screens solution-oriented, constructive and empowering movies about sustainability-related topics.  We aim to inspire people to take action and contribute to the transition towards a regenerative culture in which humanity harmonizes with nature.

The festival is open to films of all production techniques, including animation, documentary, drama, experimental or artistic films and hybrid work from low to high budgets. This year, we accept submissions from four different categories: Short Film, Short Film for Children Award, Feature Film and Special Topic. Our Special Topic of 2024 is “United in Change? Striving for a Just Transition”. If we know that a transition away from fossil fuel and other detrimental industries is needed,  those who are affected the most by this undertaking cannot be forgotten. The term Just Transition recognises the imbalanced and disjointed impacts of the transition away from fossil fuel dependences and it seeks to ensure that no one is left behind in the process.

The selected movies will be screened at our festival which takes place from the 6th until the 10th of November 2024. In parallel, side events will be organised with some of our partners throughout the year, such as bicycle-powered school cinemas and a disco.
