Autumn 2019. A group of activists disguised as clowns play a game of tennis inside a Crédit Suisse branch in Lausanne. Their aim is to call on Roger Federer, of which the bank is one of the main sponsors, to make him aware of the toxic investments of the Swiss financial centre. This action created a worldwide buzz when a judge in Vaud acquitted the activists a few months later, justifying their action on the grounds of the imminent danger of climate change. But this was only the first step on a long legal road that would take the young activists all the way to the European Court of Human Rights. This film goes behind the scenes of a few episodes of climate justice. It’s an intimate, powerful, sometimes funny and moving journey that takes the protagonists through the lawyers’ offices and the back alleys of the courts. A journey strewn with countless pitfalls, tensions, hopes, bitter disappointments and fleeting triumphs.

After the movie, director Stéphane Goël and other experts will join us online or in person for a discussion on criminalisation of climate activists. More information will follow ahead of time.




Note: Although no entrance fee is required, it is recommended to book in advance. Choose the film session you are interested in on our Filmfreeway platform (tickets are organised per film name and follow the chronological order of our festival). There are no assigned seats.  Please come half an hour before the session. We will give away the tickets that haven’t been collected 15 minutes before the session starts.

Information about languages is provided above. We tend to provide live interpretation towards English or German when needed (it might be whispered). However live interpretation is harder to put into place when some speakers are taking part online.

 No entrance fee is required. We invite our public to support the festival through a donation at the end of the sessions. You decide how much you want to give.
