    Festival Recap 2023

From 8th to 12th November 2023, the ninth edition of the Greenmotions Film Festival took place at Kommunales Kino in Alter Wiehrebahnhof in Freiburg. We showed inspiring films on various topics related to the environment and sustainability. In addition to many inspiring films, there was a motivating workshop, a delicious food sharing buffet and exciting live discussions and video talks with filmmakers. Out of the 20 screenings, 14 of them were followed by discussions lasting between 30 and 60 minutes. We welcomed a total of 866 visitors over the five days of the festival. We would like to thank all volunteers, cooperation partners, sponsors and everyone who helped to make this wonderful festival possible!

With the ninth edition of the festival, we focussed on the special topic “Climate Justice: Perspectives and Solutions from the Global South”. The award in the Special Topic category was awarded by a jury. The audience voted for their favorite among all the other feature films. Two further prizes were awarded in the categories of short films (also by a jury) and – for the first time this year – short films for children.

This year’s audience award had dual winners with “Fashion Reimagined” by Becky Hill and “FINITE” by Rich Felgate both taking home the main prize. In our special topic, the jury awarded “Threatened Tapajós” by Thomaz Pedro as the winner. Noah Erni’s “The Invention of Less” took home the prize in the short film category and our little guests voted “What’s up with the Sky” by Irene Iborra as the inaugural winner of the short films for kids competition.
