Das sind wir

Adam Oliver

”I’m a former Masters of Environmental Governance student with a focus on transitional processes and content creation work. Greenmotions helps bring two of my biggest interests together – film and sustainability.”

What is your role?

“I joined the team during the 2023 festival preparation process, so initially partook in the film selection process and then helped out in a number of other supportive roles.”

Why Greenmotions?

“I’m deeply interested in and passionate about the human aspect of the sustainability transition, how we can make the necessary changes in our society to avoid the worst aspects of the climate crisis, whilst at the same time ensuring progression in terms of human rights.

We must make swift changes both on a socio-political and an economic level to hope to achieve climate goals. To do this, people must be onside in understanding the severity of the threat climate change poses, the damage to the environment being inflicted by human interaction and the very real impacts which are already taking place around the world. And there are few better ways to guide this understanding than through the medium of film.”

Carlotta Stark

“I’m Carlotta and I’m studying M.Sc. Geography of Global Change at the University of Freiburg.”

What is your role?

“I joined the team in 2022 and try to support the team in different tasks, especially in the movie selection process and in communications.”

Why Greenmotions?

“The topics of sustainability, especially environmental and climate protection, play an important role in my studies and in my life in general. In my opinion, the festival is a great way to bring these topics to the people and bring people into action. Also, I really enjoy working in this young and international team of volunteers.”

Elise Petitjean

”Empowerment has been the leitmotif of my personal engagement for the past years to contribute to build a fair and inclusive society.”

What is your role?

I joined Greenmotions in 2023. Since then I have been involved in the festival organisation but also in developing cooperations with existing and new partners. From hanging posters to film moderation I would say that my role was quite varied!

Why Greenmotions?

I am convinced that films and sustainability are a great combination between raising awareness towards topics which are not always easy to tackle and leading to change. The donation basis system allows everyone to come to the festival, this is one of the big strengths of the festival. Without the people, the festival couldn’t exist.It is fantastic what a small team can achieve together.

Laure Kervyn

“I’m passionate about documentary filmmaking and care a lot about climate and social justice. These interests make me take what looks like detours in life, sometimes working as a filmmaker, other times as a researcher, sometimes as a communication officer or multimedia content creator.

What is your role?

“I joined the team in 2022 to support the task especially with movie selection, organising the Special Topic Jury. I rarely stick to one task though and help wherever I see a need for it. After a first year as part of the team, I’m interested in making the festival grow, making it known and accessible for a broader audience in Freiburg.

Why Greenmotions?

“Greenmotions brings together so many of my interests that it just made sense for me to join the team. I strongly believe in the power of documentaries to move people and bring food for thought. I especially love it when discussions start after a film and people share their reflections with others within a debate or afterwards, at the bar, on the way home or even later with others. It’s also very nice to be within an international team.

Lorenzo Gumier

„Roads?! Where we are going we don’t need roads!“
Lorenzo, passionate engineer with a pechant for story telling, combines his enthusiasm for sustainable development with a good deal of pragmatism gained over years of international experience in the energy field. Currently he works as an asset manager for Wind- and hydropower plants spread all over Europe. When he has time off, he can be spotted climbing mountains with his faithfull bike or travelling in search for good stories to tell.

What is your role?

„Mostly active in film selection and organizing the Short film competition“

Why Greenmotions?

„Greenmotions is the ideal opportunity to share my interest for the topic with other like-minded people and a valuable means to support environmental, social education by reaching out a larger audience.“

Margaux Savin

“I am passionate about good ideas to improve our lives and relationship to nature. Greenmotions is the best place to watch, listen, discuss and spread such inspiring ideas out there.”

What is your role?

“Since 2022 I have helped securing the financial resources needed to fulfill the festival’s mission”

Why Greenmotions?

“Optimism, creativity, innovation, courage and collaboration is what we need to get out of the climate crisis and ensure a pleasant life for the next generations on all continents. The festival celebrates these values by bringing people together around solution-oriented movies and inspiring filmmakers.
And well, working in this team is fantastic!”

Tobias Johannes Schächtele

“I am Tobias, based in Freiburg, I work as a self-employed visual artist (atm mainly motion graphics, e.g. explanatory animations, VFX etc.). Also deeply interested in all aspects of the art of cinema in terms of storytelling and how to express (but also read and interpret) themes in stories  – thus I aspire to be a screenwriter myself.”

What is your role?

“I hope to be able to support Greenmotions in terms of visual identity and different graphic works as well as the film selection process – also I will try to bring in my experiences in filmmaking and film analysis I gathered during and beyond my media studies at Hochschule Offenburg.”

Why Greenmotions?

„…the purpose of civilization and growth is to be able to reach out and empathize (…) with other people, find out what makes them tick, what they care about. For me, the movies are like a machine that generates empathy.” – Roger Ebert, Film Critic

I wish to combine my love for cinema and film festivals with my urge to make a difference in the midst of the ongoing effects of manmade climate change.
My hope is to find people who share that urge and together we can experience self-efficacy instead of giving in to inaction and being overwhelmed by impending ecological and societal disaster/s.

Vinay Narayan Hegde

I am Vinay and I did my Master of Science degree in Renewable Energy Engineering and Management at the University of Freiburg.

What is your role?

I am a part of the program team and communication team. Taking care of Facebook posts and program coordination. I joined Greenmotions as a volunteer in 2017

Why Greenmotions?

I believe in educating the people about climate change, sustainability and lifestyle towards greener future. Greenmotions does a similar thing. The team consists of highly motivated and enthusiastic team members. It is fun to work together with similar mindset people with a single goal „Sustainable Future for all“.

Xiaoxin WANG-ERB

“I am a theatrical course teacher in Heidelberg, for the beginning of  language learning, media and good ideas could help my students to continue their interests. Greenmotions is the best place to bridge young people’s interests through film and media.”

What is your role?

“In 2022 I became one member of the team in different roles to be helpful to strengthen the festival.”

Why Greenmotions?

for bees mooning for honey in weedless fields;
for sleepy Marsh Fritillary butterflies
swarming the ancient bog of Cors Llawr Cwrt;
for the Brown Hairstreak in love with blackthorn
and the honeydew of aphids in the ash;
for the blackbird’s evening aria of possession;
for Earth’s intricate engineering, unpicked
like the flesh, sinews, bones of the mother duck
crushed on the motorway, her young
bewildered in a blizzard of feathers;
the balance of things undone by money,
the indifferent hunger of the sea.

What is your role?

Since I’ve joined the film festival as a volunteer five years ago I became part of the organisation team and worked as a minijobber for several years. As a cashier my focus lies on book-keeping, finance and fundraising.

Why Greenmotions?

Motivation & inspiration around all team members as well as the courage for development and transition lead to a dynamic work atmosphere out of which a creative film festival can develop. A film is a very powerful instrument that can connect peoples‘ stories all over the world, address environmental problems and find solutions behind complex correlations.

Lotus Shaheen
„Lotus has studied Renewable Energy Engineering & Management in beautiful Freiburg, where she also learnt a lot about sustainability. Despite her technical background, she finds her inspiration in artistic and social driven initiatives, and seeks opportunities where her professional background crosses roads with her personal interests. So has been the case with Greenmotions!“
What is your role?

„Preparing written content such as newsletters and media posts, helping with team/task optimization, learning from everyone else, and watching lots of movies :)“

Why Greenmotions?

„Greenmotions has been closely bound to my study program. First, it started as helping out friends by volunteering to the festival’s main event. Then, I got to see many different movies from all around the globe about green energy, sustainability, biodiversity, and even gender equality. I was fascinated by the diversity of the programs and the steep growing curve of the festival year after year. Once I graduated, I wanted to dedicate more time and passion into this amazing team. And I was warmly welcomed to upgrade from a volunteer to a more active team member.

Lucas Lücken

What is your role?

„To see more than one aspect of the festival, I try to contribute to different roles in Greenmotions. My main tasks are graphic design support and film selection.“

Why Greenmotions?

„I’m interested in films since I was a little boy. After engine driver and zoologist, director of films was my next dream job and I went to film theatres quite often. With Greenmotions, I can work with films from another perspective – and it is a lot of fun!“
